About

I bet you are wondering what essay consulting is.

In short, it is a program that will give students the tools to communicate effectively, and to give them a means to reach their goals.

While communicating in person is ideal, more often thannot, students will have to express themselves through their written works. Whether they are completing homework assignments for teachers, or writing essays for college applications, students will have to present themselves on paper—or electronically, in many cases.

As much as teachers and admissions officers wish to spend one-on-one time with every student, this ideal is simply impossible. As a result, teachers dole out assignments in order to assess their students’ progress, and determination. In turn, admissions officers demand essays and short responses with hopes that they might catch a glimpse of the student sitting behind the computer screen.

With so much riding on a single essay, it is imperative that students present their best. With thousands of applicants each year, universities will scoff at essays riddled with grammatical errors. In addition, high school teachers, college professors, and future employers will come to value those who can communicate concisely in writing. This will be reflected in higher grades, higher wages, and eventual promotions.

This program aims to guide students through the writing process. Each student will have a different starting point. Some may have brilliant ideas, but may have trouble conveying those thoughts into words. Others may be grammar whizzes, but may lack the creative spark that will set his/her writing apart.

This program will take all those differences into consideration. Each student will build a solid foundation based on brainstorming, organizing, outlining, writing, editing, and proofreading. Students will be asked to submit 3 to 4 essays per week. These essays may be assignments for school, practice essays, college application essays, etc. Students will also be provided with a weekly theme on which they can write about. In addition, I will give students a list of TOEFL and SAT essay topics from which they may choose their topics.

These essays will be given at the beginning of each week. The students will have the week to write the essays, and the essays must be submitted over the weekend. The sooner students submit their work, the sooner they will be edited and returned to them.

What I as an essay consultant will do is this:

I will assess the writing level of the student.

I will begin to teach the student the basics of brainstorming, organizing, outlining, writing, editing, proofreading, by using the student’s own written works, as well as other exemplary materials.

I will read and edit each of the student’s essays.

I will provide feedback on ways to improve the particular written piece, as well as lessons on the writing process in general.

I will advise students on the aspects of writing that affects their academic careers, as well as those students who have questions about the college application process.

For the parents, I will provide updates at least once every two weeks on the progress of your child. If students are not submitting their work, I will let you know. I will inform you of what we are working on during the week.

If you would like your child to focus on certain aspects of the writing process, please feel free to let me know. If your child has specific concerns and problem areas, we will focus on those as well.
